About the position

The Senior Principal RF Design Engineer at Raytheon is responsible for the design, development, and support of advanced RF/Microwave systems, specifically focusing on radar receiver, exciter, and transmitter products. This role involves working with interdisciplinary teams to create innovative solutions that enhance national defense capabilities. The engineer will engage in architecture development, hardware design, and hands-on testing, ensuring that products meet stringent performance and manufacturability standards.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture development, requirements analysis, hardware design, and hands-on testing of components, circuit card assemblies, and subsystems.
  • Design and development of transmitters, receivers, or exciters.
  • Design and optimization of RF circuits, including chains of components and individual parts such as filters and limiters.
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams including power, digital, and mechanical engineers.
  • Schematic capture and RF routing.
  • Provide technical support during the transition to production and support production activities.
  • Manage cost and schedule, and contribute to proposal writing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 10 years of experience, or an Advanced Degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Experience with Microwave/RF system, subsystem, and/or component analysis, design, and/or test.
  • Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., HFSS, ADS, CST) and analytical tools (e.g., MATLAB).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience translating system performance and operation specifications into hardware requirements and test specifications.
  • Background in designing for manufacturability and cost constraints, including yield and margin analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify alternate solutions to technical challenges.
  • Experience in technical writing and oral presentations.
  • Technical background in cascade analysis, filter design, circuit card assembly, high-speed data converter test, and low noise RF source design.
