About the position
The Sr. Principal Scientist, Precision Bioinformatics site lead will oversee Companion Diagnostics (CDx) efforts in San Diego, leading a team of bioinformaticians and data scientists to develop AI/ML models using proprietary and public data. This role involves managing biospecimen operations, supporting clinical trials, and collaborating with discovery and clinical teams to drive data science strategies in immunology.
Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and hire team members for AI/ML model development.
- Implement feature engineering to support rapid AI/ML model generation.
- Communicate AI/ML strategies and insights through compelling visualizations.
- Identify public data sources to enhance AI/ML model building.
- Oversee biospecimen and biobanking operations.
- Anticipate challenges and forecast timelines for project deliverables.
- Supervise junior colleagues as needed.
- Collaborate with experimental scientists to optimize resource allocation and research plans.
- Communicate results to project teams and the broader scientific community.
Requirements
- Ph.D. with a minimum of 10 years of research experience.
- 5+ years of experience leading computational teams and developing data science talent.
- Expertise in precision medicine AI/ML model development.
- Proficiency in coding with R/Python and establishing best practices for data analysis.
- Strong ability to influence in complex matrixed organizations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain productive cross-site collaborations.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in the molecular diagnostics industry.
- Experience in biobanking and biospecimen operations.
- Familiarity with functional genomics analyses of human samples.
- Familiarity with animal models of immune-mediated diseases.
