About the position

The Senior Principal Scientist at Aptima will lead the strategic transition of AI technologies from research and development to operational deployment, particularly within the Department of Defense and related sectors. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integration of AI solutions into secure environments while maintaining compliance with security and regulatory standards. The position emphasizes innovation, partnership, and alignment of AI initiatives with national security objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the entire lifecycle of AI technology transition, from development to operational deployment, ensuring adherence to security protocols and operational requirements.
  • Foster and sustain relationships with key stakeholders in government, academia, and industry to facilitate technology transfer and adoption.
  • Lead the creation of white papers, proposals, and business development initiatives to expand Aptima's AI portfolio, focusing on securing new opportunities with advanced research and development organizations.
  • Collaborate with the Contracts department to develop and implement contracting strategies that support technology transition and business growth objectives.
  • Partner with leadership from People Operations and Technical Operations to identify and address staffing needs to ensure successful technology transition and sustainment efforts.
  • Ensure that all technical approaches align with security and regulatory standards, particularly in classified or sensitive environments.
  • Formulate and implement a long-term strategy for AI technology adoption across governmental sectors that increases alignment of Aptima's mission with national security priorities.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in AI technology development and deployment, with a strong background in government or defense sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in transitioning technologies into secure environments, including experience with the DoD or other federal agencies.
  • Significant expertise in business development, proposal writing, and strategic planning.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to engage customers, partners, and end-users effectively.
  • U.S. Citizenship required or the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
