The Senior Principal Software Engineer will serve as the Product Owner (PO) in the Advanced Technology department of the Software Engineering Directorate. This role involves leading a team that develops tactical mission flight software capabilities for major Advanced Technology missile programs, including hypersonics. The ideal candidate will be a Subject Matter Expert in Real Time Embedded Software Development, with a proven track record in designing and developing flight software and providing technical leadership. The PO will manage all aspects of software engineering activities, including cost, schedule, planning, and execution, ensuring that software delivery milestones are met on a fast-paced schedule. In this role, the PO will work closely with the Chief Product Owner, Product Owners, Software Architect, and Chief Engineers to develop a team capable of delivering Embedded Real Time tactical flight software. Responsibilities include leading the execution of software work scope, developing software backlogs, and supporting continuous improvement of processes and tools. The position requires extensive interaction with various stakeholders and the ability to represent the Raytheon Software Engineering team to customers during programmatic and technical meetings. This is an onsite position located in Tucson, AZ, where the candidate will be expected to work closely with the team to achieve project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of all assigned software work scope and determine personnel allocation within the team.
  • Review and approve software contract deliverables before delivery to program stakeholders.
  • Develop software backlogs, plans, and metrics within an agile framework.
  • Support continuous improvement of people, processes, and tools.
  • Represent the interests of the Software Engineering Directorate in various meetings.
  • Develop a team capable of delivering Embedded Real Time tactical flight software with firmware interfaces.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Product Owner for software engineering and development activities.
  • Identify, establish, and implement best practices and lessons learned in software development.
  • Utilize agile software development methods, automation, and continuous integration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in Embedded software engineering.
  • Experience developing, integrating, testing, or verifying Real Time Embedded C++ software with a Real Time Operating System (RTOS).
  • Experience supporting missile system software design, requirements, development, integration, or test.
  • Experience leading a software team in a technical capacity including planning and execution.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working on a development program using agile/scrum and devOps or test automation.
  • Experience in embedded mission software integration for a missile.
  • Experience designing and architecting Real Time Embedded software on multi-core systems.
  • Experience using scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, or Perl.
  • Earned Value Management System (EVMS) Certified or Cost Account Manager (CAM) experience.
