About the position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Process/Chemical Engineer to join our team in a remote capacity, based out of our Richland, WA office. This position is critical as we continue to grow and respond to the increasing demand for our engineering and project management services. The Senior Process/Chemical Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring that our engineering solutions meet the highest standards of quality and compliance with project and code requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of engineering calculations, including mass and energy balances, pressure profiles, and the sizing of pipes, pumps, and vessels. They will generate and be fully conversant with Process Flow Diagrams, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Process Data Sheets, which are essential for the design and modification of plant systems. In this role, the engineer will assist in the preparation and approval of design documents and plant modifications, providing technical expertise and guidance to develop, manage, and implement engineering analyses and programs. Familiarity with national codes and standards relevant to the Chemical Engineering discipline is essential, as the engineer will ensure that all design criteria, specifications, practices, and procedures are adhered to. The position requires collaboration with multi-discipline teams to ensure the integration of design across various engineering disciplines, and the engineer will be responsible for checking the accuracy of design media in accordance with company policies and client expectations. The Senior Process/Chemical Engineer will also be expected to lead and supervise members of the design team, recommend new equipment and techniques to improve performance, and perform independent research and analyses in support of plant changes and design modifications. This role offers significant creativity and latitude, with the potential to act as Lead Discipline Engineer or Engineering Manager on dedicated projects. The engineer will also participate in the preparation of cost estimates for engineering services and coordinate work assignments to meet project schedules and budgets. Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations to document compliance with project and code requirements.
  • Generate and be conversant with Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, and Process Data Sheets.
  • Assist in the preparation and approval of design documents and plant modifications.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance for engineering analysis and programs.
  • Ensure adherence to national codes and standards in Chemical Engineering.
  • Interface with team members and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient work completion.
  • Work in multi-discipline teams to ensure design integration across disciplines.
  • Check the accuracy of design media according to company policies and client expectations.
  • Lead and supervise design team members, providing mentorship and guidance.
  • Recommend new equipment and techniques to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Conduct independent research and analyses for plant changes and design modifications.
  • Support installation and testing of site systems and components.
  • Participate in cost estimation for engineering services and coordinate work assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related technical degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the field.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Process Equipment design software and Microsoft Office.
  • Detailed knowledge of industry codes and regulations.
  • Professional Engineering License preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
