About the position

The Senior Process Engineer in Industrial Water at Stantec is responsible for leading process evaluation and design efforts within the Water business. This role involves collaborating with various engineering and environmental professionals to deliver sustainable solutions for water management across multiple industries, including manufacturing, energy, and pharmaceuticals. The engineer will engage in business development, manage project proposals, and ensure the safety and efficiency of water-related projects while mentoring junior staff and developing client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Perform business development/application tasks and collaborate with staff to increase project wins and develop long lasting client relationships.
  • Participate in business line teams to manage and develop proposals.
  • Act as the client-facing contact for business development, meetings, and presentations.
  • Prepare scope of work documents and estimates.
  • Create division of responsibility (DOR) matrices and collaborate with multiple business lines to develop opportunities.
  • Conduct quality reviews of proposals and projects.
  • Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned water, power, and industrial process projects.
  • Develop design basis documents, engineering calculations, and engineering drawings.
  • Prepare engineering reports and feasibility studies, and present findings to clients and stakeholders.
  • Engage in the development of designs through sketches and electronic models.
  • Assist project managers with project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule management.
  • Lead the development and coordination of project construction specifications.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects.
  • Review contractor/vendor submittals for adherence to contract documents and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with regulatory reviews to seek final project approvals.
  • Assist in the development and updates of project design standards and guidelines.
  • Manage a team of design professionals and technicians, mentoring and supervising staff.
  • Participate in business development pursuits including proposal preparation and interviews.
  • Interact with clients and management regarding project status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil/Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of total experience in engineering, with at least 2 years of operational experience preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to perform mass & energy balance and hydraulic calculations.
  • Experience in developing piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe; experience with software such as Fathom, Arrow, ASPEN.

  • Experience in the water, power, and industrial process sectors.
  • Knowledge of local and regional jurisdictional codes and design requirements.
  • Ability to deliver technical presentations in public forums.
