About the position

Stantec's growing Process & Industrial Water practice is seeking a highly motivated Senior Process Engineer with industrial process, application, and operations experience to join our team. The candidate will support project proposal and application processes throughout the US and Canada, focusing on the US North Region within various markets including Manufacturing, Energy, Power, Food and Beverage, Hi-Tech, Mining, and Pharma. The role involves networking with a wide array of engineering, environmental, water, and wastewater professionals on both technical project execution and related business development initiatives, as well as leading process evaluation and design efforts. The Senior Process Engineer will evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for projects, performing a variety of tasks such as calculations, design sketches, report preparation, and field work. Projects assigned may be broad, varied, and diverse in scope, requiring analysis to ensure safety, reliability, resource efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Business development activities will include listening to client needs, identifying solution opportunities, and assisting in the development of detailed proposals for various project settings. Key responsibilities include performing business development tasks, collaborating with staff to increase project wins, managing proposals, and engaging in complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects. The engineer will also assist project managers with scope, budget, staffing, and schedule management, lead the development of project construction specifications, and conduct quality assurance and control on assigned projects. Additionally, the role involves mentoring and supervising staff, interacting with clients regarding project status, and ensuring timely and effective project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform business development/application tasks and collaborate with staff to increase project wins and develop long-lasting client relationships.
  • Participate in business line teams to manage and develop proposals.
  • Act as the client-facing contact for business development, meetings, and presentations.
  • Prepare scope of work documents and estimates.
  • Develop division of responsibility (DOR) matrices.
  • Collaborate with multiple business lines to develop opportunities and conduct quality reviews.
  • Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned water, power, and industrial process and wastewater-related projects.
  • Create design basis documents and perform engineering calculations including mass and energy balances.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, reports, and feasibility studies.
  • Present findings to clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Engage in the development of designs through sketches, electronic models, and diagrams.
  • Assist project managers with developing and managing project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
  • Lead the development and coordination of project construction specifications.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on assigned projects and facilitate independent technical reviews.
  • Review contractor/vendor submittals for adherence to contract documents and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with regulatory reviews to seek final project approval.
  • Assist in the development and updates of project design standards and guidelines; prepare abstracts and technical papers.
  • Manage a team of design professionals and technicians.
  • Mentor and supervise staff to develop high-performing project teams.
  • Assist with business development pursuits including proposal preparation and participation in interviews.
  • Interact with clients and management regarding project scope, schedule, and budget status.
  • Lead and manage the preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Research and understand regulatory issues impacting projects.
  • Ensure timely and effective project delivery.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial process engineering, application, and operations.
  • Strong understanding of water, power, and industrial process systems.
  • Experience in business development and client relationship management.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in the water and wastewater industry.
