About the position

The Sr. Process Engineer at SubCom plays a pivotal role in developing, implementing, reviewing, and improving the production processes for products within the OCTE group. This position requires a creative problem solver who can effectively collaborate with various engineering disciplines and stakeholders, including Quality, Operations, and Program Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, verifying, validating, and troubleshooting processes to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency. In this role, you will be tasked with developing and maintaining manufacturing process and equipment procedures, technical specifications, and user work instructions. You will establish engineering labor and material standards for manufacturing operations, monitor performance against these standards, and address any variations that arise. Additionally, you will conduct feasibility and trade studies, perform cost analyses, and evaluate return on investment (ROI) to support decision-making processes. The Sr. Process Engineer will also organize and conduct technical design reviews to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. You will perform failure mode and effects analyses to maintain stable processes and establish new product/process capabilities prior to their release to production. Your role will involve providing technical support and clear communication to all users of the process, monitoring quality data, and developing methods to improve quality levels. Troubleshooting manufacturing processes and developing corrective actions to maintain productivity and quality will be key responsibilities. You will collaborate with various teams to diagnose issues and support continuous improvements, driving initiatives in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, write, and maintain manufacturing process & equipment procedures, technical specifications, and user work instructions.
  • Establish engineering labor and material standards for manufacturing operations; monitor performance to the standards and address any variations.
  • Perform feasibility and trade studies, cost analyses, and return on investment (ROI) and cost-to-benefit evaluations.
  • Complete assigned engineering tasks on time and within budget.
  • Organize, prepare, and/or conduct technical design reviews to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Perform failure mode and effects analyses to establish and maintain stable processes.
  • Establish and verify new product/process capabilities and new process parameters prior to release to production.
  • Perform capability and variability studies on new and existing processes, equipment, and tools.
  • Provide technical support and clear communications to all users of the process.
  • Monitor and evaluate quality data and develop methods to improve quality levels.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing processes, techniques, and quality issues; develop corrective actions to maintain acceptable levels of productivity and quality.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, operations, and internal and external supply chain personnel to diagnose issues and support continuous improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvements in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Support root cause corrective action activities using structured practices such as DMAIC or 8D.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering or related science required.
  • 10+ years of Process Engineering experience.
  • Previous experience with document control systems, engineering change orders, and modification requests required.
  • Lean / Six Sigma Certification and application of Lean / Six Sigma Body of Knowledge is a plus.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Proven track record of evaluating existing manufacturing processes and ability to re-engineer those processes to increase throughput, reduce downtime, improve safety, and enhance quality.
  • Proven ability to problem solve, execute, deliver on commitments and drive projects to on-time completion.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to energize, develop and build relationships with co-workers and cross-functional team members.
  • Strong ability to influence people without direct authority and ability to adapt to a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to manage projects and develop manufacturing processes for production handoffs.
  • Ability and willingness to engage with the manufacturing floor and associated personnel to implement processes, solve problems and ensure flow of material within work centers.
