About the position

The Senior Process Design Engineer will play a crucial role in leading and supporting multidisciplinary process industry projects within the Hawaii office of Pond. This position requires extensive experience in industrial process design, particularly in chemical, biochemical, or mechanical engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality process engineering deliverables, interfacing with clients, and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process engineering assignments in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Deliver process engineering deliverables on time and within budget, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment specifications, and cost studies.
  • Support the development of layouts and review process deliverables.
  • Create project scope and design criteria, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
  • Identify and inform project scope changes to the project manager.
  • Plan and execute work for project teams of various sizes.
  • Manage projects by tracking quality standards, budget, and schedule.
  • Delegate work to engineers and designers based on skill level.
  • Produce optimal designs, engineering calculations, and material take-offs for cost estimates.
  • Develop bid packages and collaborate with vendors and clients on cost estimates and proposals.
  • Review vendor fabrication drawings and construction submittals for compliance with engineering standards.
  • Support the development of department standards, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather and verify process data and provide construction support.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope review meetings, and client presentations.
  • Travel as required for on-site work, project meetings, and training opportunities.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Biochemical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Over 8 years of extensive industrial experience in chemical, biochemical, or mechanical process design engineering.
  • Advanced experience in engineering design principles and applicable guides, codes, and standards.
  • Experience in developing scope of work, estimates, and schedules for projects.
  • Full understanding of process design and managing process engineering work.
  • Ability to lead a small team and deliver presentations to clients.
  • Proficient in process simulation software (e.g., ASPEN Plus, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, Promax, PRO II).
  • Experienced in hydraulic software (e.g., AFT Fathom, Arrow, PIPE-FLO).
  • Experienced in drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with specification and installation of equipment, piping, and instruments.
