The Senior Process Engineer position at CalPortland is a critical role that supports the Redding Cement Plant and the company as a whole. In this role, the Senior Process Engineer will evaluate process conditions, provide detailed analysis, and coordinate the implementation of process improvements across the cement plants. The engineer will take field measurements, compile process information, perform literature research, and provide comprehensive data analysis and reporting. A key aspect of the job will involve assisting with improving process control, product quality, and overall efficiencies in the manufacturing process. The engineer will also work closely with the Energy Management Team to identify and implement energy efficiency projects, contributing to the company's goals regarding CO2 emissions. The position requires a proactive approach to reviewing new capital project equipment and process design, as well as designing new plant process equipment to optimize performance and achieve project objectives. The Senior Process Engineer will evaluate plant emissions and develop solutions to ensure compliance with regulations. Collaboration with plant personnel, engineering, and environmental staff is essential to identify problem areas and design effective solutions. Additionally, the engineer will work with automation and control systems, assist with software and graphics development, and manage capital improvement projects as assigned. Ensuring a safe work environment is paramount in the execution of all duties and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate process conditions and provide analysis for process improvements in cement plants.
  • Take field measurements and compile process information for data analysis and reporting.
  • Assist in improving process control, product quality, and efficiencies in manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with the Energy Management Team to identify and implement energy efficiency projects.
  • Develop projects to help CalPortland meet TCC and California CO2 emission goals.
  • Review new capital project equipment and process designs.
  • Design new plant process equipment to optimize performance and achieve project objectives.
  • Evaluate plant emissions and develop solutions for regulatory compliance.
  • Identify problem areas and collaborate with plant personnel and engineering staff to implement solutions.
  • Work with automation and control systems, assisting with software and graphics development as needed.
  • Assist with new process area system start-up and commissioning.
  • Manage assigned capital improvement projects.
  • Ensure a safe work environment during all duties and activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, Material Sciences, or Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience, with at least 4 years in cement manufacturing.
  • Experience at multiple cement plants is preferred.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and cooperatively with plant and corporate personnel.
  • Ability to multi-task with competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership skills to give directives and coordinate staffing and contractor needs.
  • Ability to lead meetings, maintain records, develop reports, and make presentations.
  • Above-average mathematical abilities.
  • Willingness to travel to other facilities and locations.
