About the position

The Senior Product Analyst for Small Commercial at The Hartford is responsible for conducting in-depth analysis of product performance within a designated geographic area. This role involves analyzing profit and growth metrics, providing recommendations for product enhancements, and forecasting production trends over a two-year horizon. The analyst will play a key role in pricing, product feature design, and underwriting practices, while collaborating with various business partners to align strategies and achieve profit and growth targets.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis on product performance within an assigned geographic region.
  • Analyze profit and growth performance for products and provide recommendations for enhancements.
  • Forecast production trends over a 24-month horizon.
  • Set prices and design product features in collaboration with the Product Director.
  • Adjust underwriting guidelines and provide input into underwriting practices and commission strategies.
  • Work closely with sales, underwriting, actuarial, and other key business partners to develop and execute local market strategies.
  • Incorporate company, industry, and competitor information into holistic recommendations.
  • Anticipate shifts in competitiveness and profitability using geography-specific data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • At least 3 years of experience in P&C commercial lines insurance industry evaluating product, pricing, research, or underwriting.
  • Alternatives include 3 years in P&C personal lines product, data science, performance analytics, or similar analytical roles.
  • Strong technical skills in Excel, including the ability to manipulate and formulate spreadsheets.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in visualizing quantitative information for non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to learn independently and contribute rapidly to the team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience building and using reports and dashboards with Tableau or similar business intelligence platforms.
  • Experience using Python, R, or similar programming languages for analysis tasks such as exploratory data analysis, data cleaning, and statistical analysis.
