About the position

This individual will support the Property line of business including P&L analysis, CAT management, and evaluating underwriting guidelines. Under moderate supervision, the role involves building, analyzing, and interpreting data and market insights that drive and support profit and growth strategies for a line of business or segment. The position will provide detailed analysis of production and profit data, competitor behaviors, marketplace dynamics, pricing segmentation, and underwriting analytics to monitor and understand core drivers of business. Collaboration is key, as the individual will work closely within Product Management and with key partners to formulate and implement key business strategies. Although this position does not manage others, it may involve acting as a mentor to junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing product management and development including deep dive analyses to assist in the formulation of data and market driven recommendations for product, rule, rate, or underwriting changes.
  • Handle specialized responsibilities that may involve ownership of one or more specific industries or coverage segments within the product.
  • Formulate recommendations based on analysis and interpretation of business results, allowing for quick and effective reaction to growth and profit challenges.
  • Develop a deep understanding of marketplace insights, competitive intelligence, and regulatory issues to inform solutions (product, rate/price, appetite).
  • Partner with Sales, Underwriting, and Actuarial to understand business needs and feedback.
  • Help develop strategies based on data and market insights from business partners.
  • Present findings of analysis and partner with leaders to assist in strategic overviews to management on a routine basis.
  • Provide guidance to the development of workflow practices across Product Management that reduce redundancy and establish consistency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in a discipline requiring critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Commercial Lines or Personal Lines P&C Product (Management or Development), Pricing and/or Underwriting in a comparable role is required.
  • Analytical & problem-solving skills, including the ability to encourage new ways of looking at problems, processes, and solutions.
  • Able to effectively and with minimal supervision conduct competitor analysis & gain an in-depth understanding of market dynamics including competitor underwriting initiatives, rate level analysis, forms analysis as well as economic trends & emerging issues in the market.
  • Solution-oriented individual with the ability to think strategically and implement change.
  • Experience pursuing long-term goals while balancing the short-term needs of the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint. SQL beneficial.
