About the position

The position involves leading product design initiatives at BILL, a rapidly growing Fintech company. The role focuses on managing design projects that significantly impact product areas, understanding user personas, and developing strategic design perspectives that align with business goals. The designer will collaborate across departments, influence product strategies, and deliver elegant designs that balance aesthetics with usability.

• Balances aesthetics with usability to create designs that delight users and create business value.
• Takes a leadership role in design discussions with cross-functional teams.
• Adapts messaging to different levels of the organization, from individual contributors to mid-level managers.
• Provides in-depth explanations of design choices, connecting them to user needs and business goals.
• Collaborates across departments, fostering cross-functional collaboration as co-lead with Product Management and Engineering Management.
• Demonstrates effective communication within and outside the immediate team.
• Plays a role in defining design strategies that align with the team's objectives.
• Provides input into the team's roadmap based on design insights.
• Partners with Product Marketing Managers to influence go-to-market strategy.
• Leads design critiques and workshops, guiding the team.
• Acts as a role model for positive team dynamics.
• Exhibits in-depth knowledge of design principles and industry trends.
• Analyzes competitors and contributes to strategic product decisions.
• Leverages knowledge from Sales and Support to better understand and serve customers.
• Leads user research initiatives.
• Utilizes research insights and data to inform design strategies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in product design, with a proven track record of leading design projects from concept to launch.
• Proficiency in design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Ability to take on more ambiguous assignments and elevate design artifact quality with fewer roadblocks.
• Execute with no guidance; begin to mentor other designers.
• Achieve a higher level of consistency and aesthetic and anticipate challenges with variation.
• Know when to leverage what we have in the design system and when to push for new or improved components.
• Viewed as an accountable and humble cross-functional partner.
• Able to influence PM prioritization with user data.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience in FinTech or a related industry is a plus.
