About the position
As a Senior Product Designer on the UI Systems team at Square, you will play a pivotal role in creating components, libraries, and patterns that support the central design system known as Market. This design system is integral to all of our merchant- and customer-facing products and surface areas. The UI Systems team is focused on the functional layer of our design systems and how it extends our overall brand identity. In this role, you will collaborate closely with peer Product Designers, Brand Designers, Engineers, and Technical Program Managers to work on initiatives aimed at enhancing the experience for merchants using Square products. Additionally, you will contribute to improving how product teams design and build on a day-to-day basis. Your designs will be instrumental in unlocking the potential of all product teams at Square through our design system. You will report directly to the Design Lead. This position is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in the US or Canada. You will be expected to leverage your extensive experience in design systems to create flexible and scalable components that can be utilized across various internal teams. Your ability to socialize the design system within the organization will be crucial, as you will need to partner and collaborate effectively through documentation, office hours, and pairing with fellow designers. You will also be responsible for establishing clear processes to support partner teams in adopting and contributing to the design system. Your passion for your craft will drive you to continuously improve the quality of designs at scale, ensuring that they are inclusive and accessible. You will have the opportunity to create engaging illustrations, icons, and animations that bridge brand identity, user experience, and business needs.
Responsibilities
- Create components, libraries, and patterns for the Market design system.
- Collaborate with Product Designers, Brand Designers, Engineers, and Technical Program Managers.
- Enhance the experience for merchants using Square products.
- Improve design and build processes for product teams.
- Socialize the design system across the organization through documentation and office hours.
- Establish processes for partner teams to adopt and contribute to the design system.
- Iterate and communicate design ideas across various levels of fidelity.
- Ensure designs are inclusive and accessible.
Requirements
- At least 8+ years of relevant professional experience.
- 3+ years of experience in building and maintaining design systems.
- A portfolio showcasing design systems you have created or contributed to.
- Experience as a contributor to multiple high-impact projects.
- Technical understanding of designing across various breakpoints, devices, and locales.
- Ability to quickly iterate and communicate ideas across various levels of fidelity.

- Basic understanding of code.
