About the position

Garmin is looking for a Senior Product Designer to join the Outdoor and Fitness group in Olathe, KS. This role focuses on designing user experiences for a variety of Garmin products, including wearables and navigation tools. The designer will work closely with a mentor and collaborate with various stakeholders to create user-centered designs that enhance outdoor experiences and performance for athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and prototype user experiences for new features and products in a timely manner.
  • Communicate research and designs using mockups, storyboarding, visual presentations, and behavioral documentation.
  • Produce creative, simple, and highly usable solutions for product interactions based on human behavior.
  • Document clear and organized design solutions for stakeholders and engineers.
  • Work closely with design leadership, software engineers, graphic artists, and product managers to determine design direction.
  • Assist with user interface testing and conduct usability tests for new designs.
  • Collaborate with teams within product design, software engineering, and management to produce superior solutions.
  • Adapt designs as needed, expecting ambiguity and change during projects.
  • Maintain user interface design and behavioral consistency across product types.
  • Contribute to advanced design research or concepting for new products or markets through research and prototyping.
  • Stay current on user interface design trends and competitors' designs.
  • Communicate work status clearly and provide visibility to supervisors.
  • May serve as a mentor to less experienced designers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in User Experience Design, Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, or equivalent curriculum.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience or 9 years equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in creating research, flows, and prototypes using tools such as Figma.
  • Demonstrated understanding of good user interface design principles.
  • Proven track record of leading design direction for multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
