About the position

As a Senior Product Designer at Grainger, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the user experience for Grainger Insights, a platform that presents data and information through robust reporting tools and actionable dashboards. This position requires a blend of interaction and visual design skills to create software that allows users to effectively search, consume, and manipulate data. You will be involved in the entire UX design process, from conducting research and designing solutions to delivering final UI components and testing them for usability. In this full-spectrum UX interaction design role, you will collaborate closely with agile sprint teams, including Product Managers, Business Analysts, Engineers, and QA professionals, to design experiences that cater to both Grainger customers and internal users. Your responsibilities will include creating design concepts, customer journeys, and pixel-perfect design deliverables that translate user needs into tangible interaction designs. You will also leverage and contribute to Grainger's design system documentation, ensuring that your designs are scalable and meet user needs in each iteration. Additionally, you will evaluate current user experiences and provide recommendations for improvement based on user research, evaluative testing, and session replay analysis. Your ability to communicate design decisions and rationale effectively will be crucial when presenting your work to stakeholders. You will also lead review sessions with partners and the UX team to align design patterns across products and actively seek feedback to refine your design concepts. Responsibilities

  • Work with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Engineers, and QA to design experiences for Grainger customers and internal users
  • Create design concepts, customer journeys, and pixel perfect design deliverables
  • Translate requirements and user needs into tangible interaction designs through annotated wireframes and visual designs
  • Leverage and contribute to Grainger's design system documentation
  • Understand technical and business constraints and scale designs for iterative release, ensuring user needs are met in each iteration
  • Evaluate current experiences and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Conduct user research, evaluative user testing, session replay analysis and secondary research to improve experiences
  • Communicate design decisions, rationale, and direction when presenting work
  • Collaborate with the UX team to align patterns across products
  • Develop concepts to help test new, innovative ideas
  • Actively seek out feedback from other UI Designers, UX Designers and UX leadership on UX design concepts and deliverables to ensure the best solution is created
  • Lead review sessions of in progress work with partners (product managers, engineers, business stakeholders), UX team, and UX leadership

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience as a UX/UI designer or product designer
  • Formal education in Human Centered Design, Design Methods, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in information design, UX design, usability, and accessibility
  • Proficiency in responsive web design best practices
  • Experience visualizing complex data and creating Infographics
  • Experience using and contributing to pattern libraries and comprehensive design systems
  • Strong proficiency in Figma, UX and component libraries
  • Work sample or portfolio that demonstrates expertise in product design
  • Prior experience with eCommerce and data-centric products is a plus
