About the position

Everyday Speech is a leader in Social-Emotional Learning, primarily providing a teaching solution for public schools through our SocialLearning Platform (SLP). This platform equips educators with curriculum materials designed for students of all ages, including those in special education and general education classes. Our curriculums focus on teaching students essential strategies and life skills necessary for regulating their emotions, solving problems, coping with modern life stresses, and interacting effectively with their environment. Currently, our platform is utilized in 2,500 school districts across the United States, positively impacting millions of students worldwide. As a Senior Product Designer within the Product Department, you will lead complex design projects and mentor junior team members, leveraging your expertise in product design and K12 education technology. Your role will involve making strategic, data-driven decisions, building strong collaborative relationships, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and experimentation within your product team. Your proactive problem-solving approach and effective communication skills will be crucial in driving the success of our products and achieving both company and product objectives. The ideal candidate will be values-aligned, starting with empathy and knowing when to praise or challenge teammates' work to enhance product quality. You will prioritize ruthlessly to support team and company goals, creating focus and trade-offs that balance learning, team capacity, and user needs. Your ability to create momentum within the team through efficient decision-making and proactive risk management will be essential. You will also be expected to exercise agency by addressing design problems proactively and voicing concerns when necessary. Your contributions will significantly impact our product and the experience of every educator using our platform.

Responsibilities

  • Lead major and minor product design efforts, ensuring high standards and quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to achieve collective goals.
  • Utilize strong understanding of design principles and user experience best practices in your work and provide guidance to other designers.
  • Conduct user research, analyze data, and apply insights to enhance the educator's experience.
  • Promote a culture of regular feedback, reflection, and iterative progress for continuous product enhancement.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience working as a product designer or in a similar role building software products.
  • Experience in conducting and analyzing user research studies and translating insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in agile product development methodologies.
  • Ideally, experience in designing for K12 education technology or classroom use.
  • Availability during overlap hours: UTC+2 - UTC-7.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mentoring junior designers or team members.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards in design.
