About the position

As a Senior Product Designer at Paycom, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design of visual representations for both existing and new screens across the Paycom system. Your primary responsibility will be to produce high-quality mockups that adhere to Paycom's design standards for both mobile and web-based applications. This position requires a deep understanding of design principles and the ability to translate complex ideas into visually appealing and user-friendly designs. In this role, you will lead design projects across various modules and platforms, influencing the overall design strategy for the Paycom system. You will work closely with product and development teams to ensure that the design strategy aligns with the product vision. Your expertise will be crucial in determining product overlap and enhancing user experience when utilizing multiple components. You will guide the design process by collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring that the vision and execution are aligned. You will also be responsible for identifying potential conflicts or collisions between different products, platforms, and features, proposing effective solutions. Utilizing design systems and frameworks, you will create new design styles, patterns, and components. Your role will involve using research data and design principles to support and advocate for design decisions, as well as conducting usability testing and producing research reports to inform your designs. As a Senior Product Designer, you will maintain and recommend evolutions of current design styles, patterns, and components, considering future goals and product roadmaps. You will design for the holistic user experience, creating interactive prototypes and running usability tests on them. Conducting user interviews and assisting in user research will be part of your responsibilities, as will leading discussions and collaborations between cross-functional teams. Mentoring Associate and Product Designers will be a key aspect of your role, as you promote the department's vision and goals across the organization. You will lead meetings, present to cross-functional groups and senior leaders, and collect data using various techniques to inform your design products. Proactively learning new tools and proposing tech solutions will contribute to the culture of design-driven projects and initiatives throughout the company. Additionally, you may assist with special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Leads design projects across modules and platforms
  • Influences the overall design strategy for the Paycom system
  • Translates design to layout, typography and visual hierarchy
  • Partners closely with product and development teams to support design strategy
  • Determines product overlap and user experience when using multiple components
  • Guides design process through work with cross-functional teams to ensure vision and execution alignment
  • Points out and proposes solutions to potential conflicts or collisions between different products, platforms and features
  • Uses design systems and frameworks to create new design styles, patterns and components
  • Uses research data, design principles, or other objective information to support and promote design decisions and recommendations
  • Creates and conducts usability testing, produces research reports from testing with findings and uses in designs
  • Maintains and recommends evolutions of current design styles, patterns and components
  • Considers future goals and product roadmaps when designing a product
  • Designs for the holistic user experience and potential states when designing a product
  • Creates interactive prototypes of various levels
  • Runs usability testing on their prototypes

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in design, including multi-platform application, product, graphic design, digital media or related
  • Portfolio required for review upon interview
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Bachelors degree in art, computer science, or technical field (preferred)
  • Familiar with different data collection techniques and design products based on data analysis
  • Demonstrated proficiency in information architecture, user flows and cross-platform flows
  • Strong understanding of department vision, the development process, and the interdependencies
  • Understands the different frameworks of other teams outside the Product department
  • Advanced ability to use originality, imagination, and creativity in designs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of mobile interface design across multiple operating systems
  • Strong knowledge in HTML/CSS
  • Strong knowledge in working in design programs
  • Effectively builds and manages relationships across teams and functions
  • Able to communicate complex ideas, goals and problems in a way that is easy for others not familiar with the project to understand
  • Proficient in UI software, Principle, Axure, Confluence, UTrack and Wrike
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Web 2.0 Technologies, Javascript Technologies: JQuery, Json, Ajax, Rich Internet Application Development, Responsive Web Design, and UI Performance Tuning
  • Self-directed with the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Flexible and cooperative in fulfilling all obligations
  • Strong presentation skills and confidence in presenting recommendations to leadership
