About the position

The Senior Product Development Manager at Puget Sound Energy (PSE) plays a pivotal role in leading customer product and service development initiatives. This position is focused on driving innovation in areas such as customer energy efficiency, decarbonization, and electrification, while also integrating these efforts into the utility's overall system planning. The role involves managing collaborations with critical external stakeholders, conceptualizing product and pilot categories, and developing long-range strategic business objectives. The Senior Product Development Manager will be responsible for business plan development, financial modeling, and overseeing the product lifecycle management process. In this capacity, the manager will act as a primary lead across multiple departments, supporting business cases that rely on data-driven customer and market research, financial profit and loss forecasts, vendor development and negotiation, regulatory planning, and operational planning. The role also includes the development of pilot programs that leverage emerging technologies and existing program channels to validate the potential value of future offerings. Securing approvals for product proposals will require collaboration with external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and occasionally, executive leadership. The Senior Product Development Manager is expected to uphold safety compliance standards as per PSE's operating procedures and promote a culture of total safety. Additionally, the manager must demonstrate a commitment to ethical business practices, ensuring that all duties are performed in accordance with regulatory compliance obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to others in the department and throughout the company.
  • Drive overarching product strategy roadmap.
  • Coordinate and review the work of others who assist in specific assignments including contractors and consultants.
  • Lead internal teams to bring large-scale product concepts through internal and external approvals and to launch.
  • Identify market potential and pricing by leading a cross-functional team to quantitatively test market for potential adoption of product concepts.
  • Lead operational planning, including vendor and partnership management, to identify the best means to deliver products to customers.
  • Lead development of profit and loss statements and forecasts based on market research and vendor discussions.
  • Market and sales planning, including identifying launch and follow-on customer segments and setting sales targets.
  • Provide guidance during product design and oversee prioritization of development activities to deliver large-scale or transformational products and/or projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, finance, economics, engineering or related field.
  • 10 years' experience in leading/implementing complex multi-disciplined market/program/product analysis, research, evaluation, or product launch.
  • 5 years of increasing responsibility in the utility, energy or independent power sector.
  • Ability to develop and drive overarching product strategy and roadmap to deliver large-scale or transformational products and/or projects.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver multiple complex customer-facing products or projects simultaneously.
  • Strong business and financial analytical skills with capability to analyze a wide array of business challenges.
  • Proven ability to identify and use advanced customer and marketing analytics.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Ability to synthesize data and other information into clear, actionable deliverables.
  • Ability to build trust and value-based relationships with employees at all levels of internal and external organizations.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other presentation and analytical tools.
