About the position

The Senior Product Development Engineering Manager at Amphenol High Speed Products Group plays a pivotal role in leading the design and development of high-speed cable backplane systems that are essential for the Telecom and Datacom markets. This position is crucial as it supports the ongoing electronics revolution and the advancements in AI and machine learning technologies. The successful candidate will oversee a highly skilled team of engineers, guiding them through the complexities of product design, production implementation, and continuous improvement processes. In this role, the manager will be responsible for directing department activities aimed at designing new products, modifying existing designs, and enhancing production techniques. This includes developing test procedures and ensuring that engineering tasks are completed accurately and on time. The manager will also communicate with customers and internal product managers to gather product requirements and performance specifications, translating these into actionable designs and manufacturing processes. Mentorship is a key aspect of this position, as the manager will oversee and train engineering teams, fostering their professional growth within the organization. Collaboration with peers and other engineering managers is essential to share best practices and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The manager will also work closely with management, production, and marketing teams to assess the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of new and existing products, while forecasting departmental operating costs and preparing budget requests. Staying informed about new technologies that could enhance operations is also a critical responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Direct department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
  • Communicate and work with customers and internal product managers to understand product requirements and performance specifications and convert those into new product designs, production tooling, manufacturing processes, qualification testing, and the transfer to volume production sites.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of engineering tasks of engineers within the group.
  • Oversee and mentor engineering teams, providing needed training and working with team members to grow within the organization.
  • Coordinate with peers and other engineering managers within the organization to share best practices and continuous improvement activities.
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Forecast operating costs of department and direct preparation of budget requests.
  • Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develop recommendations accordingly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering discipline; Masters degree in Engineering or MEM/MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in Engineering Management or Project Management, with at least 7+ years of leading a technical team.
  • Experience with connectors and cables preferred.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as needed.
