About the position

As a Senior Product Manager - Technical at Mastercard, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Switching Solutions Team. This position is designed for a passionate and collaborative individual who can effectively communicate with both business and IT stakeholders across all organizational levels. You will be responsible for developing inspiring platform and product visions that are derived from business needs, market opportunities, and technology trends. Utilizing the Working Backwards method, you will decompose business requirements and customer experiences into features and functions that will drive the platform and product roadmap. Your role will involve working closely with Technical Program Managers, Developers, UX designers, and internal customers to define the details behind the business requirements, ensuring that user stories are collected and shared with engineering teams. As the voice of the business customer, you will be accountable for the platform services, ensuring that they meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders. In this role, you will set the vision and direction for the platform design of assigned products, exhibiting expertise across multiple platform products. You will build tight connections to resources to drive overall strategy and influence teams both inside and outside your organization to deliver expected results. Identifying short- and medium-term risks to platform product development and segment adoption will be crucial, as will proposing solutions to address these risks. You will continuously monitor feature development and associated defects at the platform product level, using data to make informed decisions. Your responsibilities will also include making trade-off decisions on multiple platform products in a portfolio, managing escalations, and delivering on post-launch reviews and customer feedback. You will engage with business customers to identify key platform product issues and solicit feedback on the platform product roadmap, leveraging your data analysis skills to research complex problems and communicate recommendations to senior leadership. As a leader, you will oversee team-wide product operations, lead junior PM-Ts who may own individual components, and coordinate team-wide improvement goals. You will represent Mastercard with external stakeholders for escalations and during strategic roadmap discussions, driving the adoption of existing platform products into multiple marketplaces with minimal engagement from leadership. Your role will also involve identifying meaningful components of competitive analysis that inform decisions for the platform product portfolio and roadmaps, as well as leading test and learn experiments that create platform products that increase customer value. Participating in customer research will be essential to gain a real-world understanding of customer needs and the value of the platform products you manage.

Responsibilities

  • Sets the vision and direction for the platform design of assigned products
  • Exhibits expertise across multiple platform products
  • Builds tight connections to resources to drive overall strategy and teams inside your organization while influencing those outside your organization to deliver the expected results
  • Identify short-and-medium-term risks to platform product development and segment adoption, while proposing solutions to address them
  • Continuously monitors feature development and associated defects at the platform product level
  • Use data to make decisions
  • Continuously monitor and analyze key performance indicators on the organization's score card and move them in a positive direction
  • Makes trade-off decisions on multiple platform products in a portfolio
  • Uses runtime metrics of their services in market as a feedback loop in to the backlog and balances the priorities against new feature requests
  • Manage escalations, assess the alternative to resolve (path to green) and builds a plan for resolution
  • Own and deliver on post-launch reviews and customer feedback, drives the associated actions, and incorporates feedback into the future launch plans
  • Shares best practice with other Mastercard teams
  • Engages with business customers to identify key platform product issues; solicits feedback on platform product roadmap
  • Leverages data analysis skills to research difficult or ambiguous problems, leading cross-disciplinary teams where necessary and communicating recommendations to senior leadership
  • Oversees team-wide product operations, leads junior PM-Ts who may own individual components, and coordinates team-wide improvement goals
  • Represents Mastercard with external stakeholders for escalations and during strategic roadmap discussions
  • Drives adoption of existing platform products into multiple marketplaces (in some cases simultaneously) with minimal engagement from leadership
  • Identifies meaningful components of competitive analysis that informs decisions for the platform product portfolio and roadmaps
  • Identifies innovations and leads test and learn experiments that create platform products that increase customer value of the platform product roadmap
  • Participates in customer research with the business to gain end-to-end real-world understanding of customer needs and platform product value

Requirements

  • Experience building complex business and/or transactional models in a product line management, e-commerce, and/or strategic planning role
  • Can deliver high quality technology products/services in a high growth environment where priorities shift rapidly
  • Ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases
  • Proven ability to lead in a matrix environment
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with complete independence and autonomy
  • Experience and proficiency with cloud technologies (IaaS, PaaS, serverless technology, NoSQL databases), microservice design, near real-time, scalable fault tolerant platform design, API design, and distributed systems operations in a DevOps model
  • Experience with XP, TDD and BDD in the software development processes
  • Proven track record of data driven decision making and applying continuous improvement methodologies across teams
  • Comprehensive experience in agile delivery methodologies (scrum, Kanban, etc.) and CI/CD
  • Can communicate to executives, peers, and staff with impact, eloquence, and authenticity
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships, partnering with and influencing executive leadership while commanding the respect of the individual engineers across the organization
  • Deep understanding of the platform, the integration patterns, the organizational capabilities, and the company wide assets that can be leveraged to provide technical solutions to customer problems.
