About the position

The Senior Product Owner is responsible for leading and guiding a cross-functional team in the development and delivery of high-quality technology products. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of technology concepts and practices, agile methodology, product development, and the healthcare industry. They will be responsible for defining product vision, strategy, and roadmap, managing the product backlog, and ensuring successful product launches. This role requires a highly collaborative approach, necessitating strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. The Senior Product Owner will mentor other Product Owners, collaborate with stakeholders, and communicate product updates to leadership, ensuring alignment and clarity throughout the product lifecycle. In this position, the Senior Product Owner will empower teams to manage their work by setting clear priorities and scope from the team backlog. They will make trade-offs and negotiate with stakeholders based on team capacity to determine the backlog. The role involves developing and maintaining a product delivery roadmap, collaborating with stakeholders such as external clients, product management, and portfolio leaders to create and communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap. The Senior Product Owner will represent the product in mid-level governance meetings and track and provide status updates to leadership. Utilizing market trends and customer feedback, the Senior Product Owner will identify opportunities for product enhancements and act as the voice of the user, understanding their needs and challenges to drive the iteration of existing product features in collaboration with UX. They will drive the product development process from concept to launch, ensuring high-quality deliverables and end-to-end ownership over the delivery of new features and improvements to existing features. This role also includes being a key player in solution estimation and providing guidance and mentorship to Product Owners. The Senior Product Owner will incorporate stakeholder feedback when needed and clearly articulate team backlog items and acceptance criteria to the team. They will communicate product updates, progress, and challenges to executive leadership and other relevant stakeholders, prioritizing and owning the team backlog of work to be performed. This includes ensuring that the backlog remains sufficient to support optimal team allocation for multiple streams of work. The Senior Product Owner will proactively identify new initiatives and themes while fully owning the resolution to backlog challenges, including size, business priority alignment, and timely dispute resolution. They will also be responsible for the accuracy of team data representing targeted outcomes, OKRs, and KPIs, continuously monitoring and adding metrics to provide stakeholders with an updated view of the product's success.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the product development process from concept to launch, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Provide end-to-end ownership over the delivery of new features and improvements to existing features.
  • Serve as a servant-leader for a cross-functional team or teams with a portfolio of several products.
  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback and articulate team backlog items and acceptance criteria to the team.
  • Communicate product updates, progress, and challenges to executive leadership and stakeholders.
  • Prioritize and own the team backlog of work to be performed, ensuring optimal team allocation.
  • Proactively identify new initiatives/themes working with clients and product management.
  • Clearly communicate business-friendly release notes with operational impacts to stakeholders.
  • Accept stories as 'done' from the team, ensuring they meet defined acceptance criteria.
  • Monitor and add metrics to continuously provide stakeholders with an updated view of the product's success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • 5 years of Product Ownership, Strategic Consulting or Design Thinking, or Product Development & Management, Project/Program Management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with external clients and foster positive relationships and outcomes.
  • Ability to consult with the technical team to translate business requirements into technical stories.
  • Strong understanding of agile methodology and software development.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare industry.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of Agile delivery experience with a variety of methodologies.
  • Agile certification from a known vendor (Scrum, SAFe, Scrum Alliance, etc.).
