About the position

The Senior Production Editor will oversee and manage Licensed, Clubs/Fairs (SRE) originals, and Cross channel groups within Scholastic Corporation. This role involves being the line manager for two production editors, where the individual will be responsible for assigning titles and balancing workloads among the team. The Senior Production Editor will also oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff members, addressing any HR issues that may arise within the team. Regular one-on-one meetings with team members will be conducted to ensure effective communication and support. In addition to team management, the Senior Production Editor will handle high-profile or challenging projects as needed. This includes attending and leading status meetings, participating in custom publication planning meetings, and attending sales and marketing operations meetings as the point person to advise on project status. The role also involves co-supervising both out-of-house and in-house freelancers, ensuring that production key date grids are updated annually to reflect current timelines and project statuses. The position requires a strong ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality. The Senior Production Editor will be expected to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and ensure that all projects are completed on time and to the expected quality standards. This role is crucial in supporting Scholastic's mission to provide quality educational materials and services to children and educators worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of two production editors and oversee Licensed, Clubs/Fairs (SRE) originals, and Cross channel groups.
  • Attend all status and related meetings, resolving any challenges as they arise.
  • Attend Firebrand meetings and assist in workflows and system operations.
  • Handle high-profile and/or challenging projects as needed.
  • Co-manage out-of-house freelancers and review copyediting and proofreading tests of prospective freelancers.
  • Recruit and onboard new hires, working with HR, and provide training.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience working in Production Editorial or Managing Editorial.
  • Strong copyediting and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with multiple project stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and juggling multiple projects.
  • Ability to work with and manage a team in a leadership role.
