About the position

The Senior Professional Mechanical Engineer will join the Facilities Engineering team, focusing on the design of HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical systems for industrial and commercial facilities. This role involves leading mechanical design efforts, preparing construction documentation, and mentoring less experienced team members. The engineer will collaborate with various engineering disciplines and contribute to business development efforts, enhancing the company's reputation and service offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design effort for complex plant/building systems, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
  • Prepare mechanical plans, specifications, design details, and construction documentation.
  • Lead design teams for mechanical and multi-disciplined projects.
  • Oversee technical, quality, financial, and safety aspects from conception through construction.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced team members in technical design standards and project management practices.
  • Collaborate with management to develop marketing plans and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Track prospective opportunities and develop proposals for new projects.
  • Deliver capabilities presentations to clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • Ten or more years of experience in designing mechanical facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Minnesota or Illinois, with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the project development process and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring less experienced professionals.
  • Prior experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) reviews.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional registration in additional states (preferably Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Iowa).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or Plant 3D.
  • Experience with energy modeling software such as Trane Trace.
  • Experience with boiler and/or chiller system design.
  • Experience with district heating and cooling, lab ventilation, or fire protection.
  • Experience creating air balance diagrams, process flow diagrams, and piping/HVAC plan drawings.
  • Experience designing systems for food production facilities.
  • LEED certification.
