About the position

The Senior Program Manager at UTHealth is responsible for developing, planning, and maintaining research and policy analysis within the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics. This role oversees the operations of multiple research programs, manages partnerships between clinicians and research scientists, and ensures the fiscal management of the program. The position requires strong leadership skills to guide research personnel and administrative staff while also engaging with community and professional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the research agenda for the area and oversees overall operations of multiple research programs.
  • Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors the progress of projects, and provides supervision and guidance to research personnel, research nurses, and administrative staff.
  • Manages partnerships between clinicians and research scientists, both internal and external to the University.
  • Manages the annual budget and is responsible for the overall fiscal management of the program, including negotiating service contracts and authorizing expenditures.
  • Informs upper management of key activities and assists in sponsored project proposals to private sponsors, governmental agencies, and industry sponsors.
  • Works closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects on the submission of sponsored project applications.
  • May conduct or supervise training related to research for internal, hospital, and community groups.
  • Develops ongoing strategic plans for the programs and communicates with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes.
  • Prepares and makes presentations at professional meetings and may participate in committees as deemed appropriate by program leadership.
  • Provides consultative expertise regarding policy and/or regulatory questions and stays abreast of new and updated protocols for the department.
  • Manages Human Resources activities or provides direct input for direct reports regarding recruiting, hiring, training, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or a Health Administration related field.
  • Seven years of applicable experience, with the possibility of substituting required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
  • Depending on research, may require advanced level grant writing skills, Registered Nurse certification within the State of Texas, or Clinical Research Coordinator certification.
