About the position

The Senior Program Manager for Research at the McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics is responsible for developing, planning, and maintaining research and policy analysis. This role oversees the operations of multiple research programs, manages partnerships between clinicians and research scientists, and ensures the fiscal management of the program. The position requires strong leadership skills to guide research personnel and administrative staff while also engaging with community professionals to share objectives and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the research agenda for the area and oversee overall operations of multiple research programs.
  • Set deadlines, assign responsibilities, monitor project progress, and provide supervision and guidance to research personnel, research nurses, and administrative staff.
  • Manage partnerships between clinicians and research scientists, both internal and external to the University.
  • Manage the annual budget and overall fiscal management of the program, including negotiating service contracts and authorizing expenditures.
  • Inform upper management of key activities and assist in sponsored project proposals to various sponsors.
  • Conduct or supervise training related to research for internal, hospital, and community groups.
  • Develop ongoing strategic plans for the programs and communicate with community and professionals to share objectives and outcomes.
  • Prepare and make presentations at professional meetings and participate in committees as deemed appropriate.
  • Provide consultative expertise regarding policy and/or regulatory questions and stay abreast of new protocols for the department.
  • Manage Human Resources activities related to recruiting, hiring, training, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or a Health Administration related field.
  • Seven years of applicable experience, with the possibility of substituting experience with equivalent education beyond the minimum requirement.
  • Advanced level grant writing skills may be required depending on research.
  • Registered Nurse certification within the State of Texas may be required depending on research.
  • Clinical Research Coordinator certification may be required depending on research.
