About the position

The Senior Project Engineer for Solar/BESS at Clearway Energy Group is responsible for overseeing the detailed design package for solar and energy storage projects across the U.S. This role involves managing both internal and external teams to ensure optimized designs, participating in contract negotiations, and supporting construction and commissioning activities. The position requires collaboration with various internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure project success.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead and primary design contact for development and construction teams on solar projects.
  • Manage resources to finalize site due diligence, project costs, schedules, and energy output with EPC contractors.
  • Review engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Develop and evaluate energy input assessments and power output expectations.
  • Optimize site layouts and equipment selection to enhance performance and reduce lifecycle costs.
  • Direct activities of designers, consultants, and contractors, managing meetings to ensure efficient resource use and timely deliverables.
  • Write and review technical documents, specifications, and reports.
  • Negotiate technical aspects of EPC contracts and interconnect agreements.
  • Coordinate with the Development team and consultants for energy resource predictions and simulations.
  • Manage contractor deliverables during construction to meet contractual milestones.
  • Act as a technical escalation point during construction to mitigate delays.
  • Represent Clearway in negotiations and meetings with various stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technology roadmap and project management processes.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in the solar and storage industry, with at least 5 years in EPC roles.
  • Strong understanding of solar and storage project design and optimization tradeoffs.
  • Familiarity with the solar and storage market, equipment suppliers, and technical specifications.
  • Experience with project financing and independent engineer requirements.
  • Knowledge of energy estimates, losses, and standards in solar and storage.
  • Experience in reviewing and negotiating EPC contracts and technical exhibits.
  • Proven ability to manage consultants and contractors effectively.
  • Working knowledge of US and IEC equipment standards and construction practices.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated, capable of thriving in a collaborative environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

  • Experience with advanced energy modeling software.

  • Project management certification (PMP or equivalent).
