About the position

The position involves providing technical advice and guidance for large and complex engineering projects at Freeport-McMoRan, ensuring successful project completion within budget and time constraints. The role requires managing projects, serving as a subject matter expert, and contributing to strategic planning and budgeting efforts. The engineer will also evaluate contracts, develop capital funding requests, and ensure compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical advice and guidance for all phases of assigned large/complex Engineering projects and programs.
  • Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects.
  • Manage projects and serve as subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex site planning/construction, expansion or modifications.
  • Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable processes, practices, and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations.
  • Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas.
  • Develop and evaluate AFE's (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests.
  • Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment.
  • Represent the site on company sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering or related field, OR Master's degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering.
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
  • Skilled in managing large/complex Engineering projects.
  • Able to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Five years or more experience in end-to-end project management (engineering, procurement, construction management, commissioning) for existing operations.
  • Five years or more experience with Smelter / Acid Plant related equipment (ducting, piping, pressure vessels, furnaces, heat exchangers, boilers etc.) and their relevant codes / standards.
  • Experience with cost estimating for civil / mechanical projects, project scheduling, cost forecasting, and project controls.
  • Experienced with plant outage events (scope development, setting goals and milestones, work coordination).
