About the position

The Sr. Control Systems Project Manager will play a crucial role in expanding TRC's consulting practice within the Operational Technology and Real-Time Systems domain. This position requires a deep understanding of major Energy Management Systems (EMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) such as OSII, GE, ABB, Schneider, and Siemens. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, vendors, and project teams to ensure the effective implementation and delivery of new systems, including Outage Management Systems (OMS) and Historian systems, as well as Energy Management Systems within the client's operational territory. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the project throughout its lifecycle. This includes assembling and managing delivery teams, assigning responsibilities, identifying necessary resources, and managing vendor and subcontractor engagements. You will also develop project schedules to ensure timely completion and will be expected to demonstrate strong judgment, leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Your responsibilities will include delivering projects to completion while managing scope, cost, schedule, and risks. You will develop contractual Statements of Work with clients and suppliers, strategize to enhance project margins, and ensure alignment between TRC's interests and those of the client. Additionally, you will lead the project team, monitor outputs, and escalate any resource gaps. You will also be responsible for preparing and maintaining risk assessments, tracking project schedules and budgets, and updating stakeholders on project progress and risks. Presenting project updates at the Steering Committee level will also be part of your duties, requiring interaction with senior executives from both TRC and the client.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver project(s) to completion, owning the scope, cost, schedule, and risks.
  • Develop contractual Statement of Works with Client and Suppliers articulating precise assumptions and limits of responsibilities.
  • Strategize and implement methodology to increase project margins.
  • Assign work, monitor, and measure the team's outputs, escalating resource gaps or shortfalls.
  • Act as TRC's representative, ensuring alignment of Client and TRC's interests for project success.
  • Manage Vendors, ensuring alignment of contractual, operational, and relationship aspects for project success.
  • Foster a positive project work environment and lead the team to accomplish project objectives on time and on budget.
  • Develop workflow plans to manage the project from initial request through systems analysis, technical design, implementation, procurement, testing, turnover to production, and client migration.
  • Plan, prepare, and track project schedules and budgets to assure controlled completion of each project step.
  • Prepare and maintain a risk assessment and mitigation action plan.
  • Maintain resource forecasts to assure schedule compliance and desired results are achieved.
  • Update company and external stakeholders on project progress, changes from original plans, and existing or emerging risks.
  • Lead project core team meetings and present project progress at Steering Committee level.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of Project Management experience in the utility domain.
  • Previous experience leading and managing large-scale, multifaceted enterprise-wide Operational Technologies Projects in an electric or gas utility environment.
  • Fully knowledgeable and proficient in all aspects of the project management Body of Knowledge.
  • Excellent organizational, decision making, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills ranging from addressing C-Level to multiple technical teams.
  • Ability to self-direct and work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent team building and motivational skills.
  • Excellent budgeting and financial skills.
  • Proficiency with MS-Project and MS Office Suite: Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Strong judgment, leadership, organization, and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience implementing large SCADA, EMS, or ADMS programs, preferably on the technology vendor side.
  • PMP Certification.
