About the position

The Senior Project Manager for Control Systems at TRC will play a pivotal role in expanding the consulting practice within the Operational Technology and Real-Time Systems domain. This position requires a deep understanding of major Energy Management Systems (EMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) from leading vendors such as OSII, GE, ABB, Schneider, and Siemens. The Senior Project Manager will work closely with clients, vendors, and project teams to ensure the successful implementation and delivery of new systems, including Outage Management Systems (OMS) and Historian systems, as well as Energy Management Systems within the client's operational territory. In this role, the Senior Project Manager will oversee all aspects of the project lifecycle, which includes assembling and managing delivery teams, assigning responsibilities, identifying necessary resources, and managing vendor and subcontractor engagements. The position demands strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to effectively manage multiple tracks of work, business and technical resources, and external consultants and vendors. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the project scope, cost, schedule, and risks are effectively managed, while also fostering a positive work environment that encourages team collaboration and success. The successful candidate will be expected to develop workflow plans that guide the project from initial requests through systems analysis, technical design, implementation, procurement, testing, and client migration. They will also be responsible for preparing and maintaining project schedules and budgets, conducting risk assessments, and providing regular updates to stakeholders on project progress and any emerging risks. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to present project updates to senior executives, ensuring alignment between TRC and client interests throughout the project.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver project(s) to completion, owning the scope, cost, schedule, and risks for the project.
  • Develop contractual Statement of Works with Client and Suppliers articulating precise assumptions and limits of responsibilities.
  • Strategize and implement methodology to increase project margins.
  • Assign work, monitor, and measure the team's outputs, escalating resource gaps or shortfalls as necessary.
  • Act as TRC's representative, ensuring alignment of Client and TRC interests for project success.
  • Manage Vendors, ensuring alignment of contractual, operational, and relationship aspects for project success.
  • Foster a positive project work environment and lead the team to accomplish project objectives on time and on budget.
  • Develop workflow plans to manage the project from initial request through systems analysis, technical design, implementation, procurement, testing, turnover to production, and client migration.
  • Plan, prepare, and track project schedules and budgets to assure controlled completion of each project step.
  • Prepare and maintain a risk assessment and mitigation action plan.
  • Maintain resource forecasts to assure schedule compliance and desired results are achieved.
  • Update company and external stakeholders on project progress, changes from original plans, and existing or emerging risks.
  • Lead project core team meetings and present project progress at Steering Committee level with participation of senior executives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of Project Management experience in the utility domain.
  • Previous experience leading and managing large-scale, multifaceted enterprise-wide Operational Technologies Projects in an electric or gas utility environment.
  • Fully knowledgeable and proficient in all aspects of the project management Body of Knowledge.
  • Excellent organizational, decision-making, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills ranging from addressing C-Level to multiple technical teams.
  • Ability to self-direct and work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent team building and motivational skills.
  • Excellent budgeting and financial skills.
  • Proficiency with MS-Project and MS Office Suite: Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
  • Strong judgement, leadership, organization, and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience implementing large SCADA, EMS or ADMS programs, preferably on the technology vendor side.
  • PMP Certification.
