About the position

As a Senior Project Manager at GXO, you will be at the forefront of our data lake initiative, leading the planning, implementation, and delivery of this strategic project. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that the project aligns with our organizational objectives and product goals. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors to achieve project milestones and deliver a robust and scalable data lake solution. This position requires a strong focus on cultivating relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive project plan that meets the overarching product goals. In this role, you will define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders, emphasizing product-driven outcomes. You will negotiate with business stakeholders to find win-win solutions while keeping cost and resource constraints in mind. Maintaining high standards through a well-defined governance model is essential, and you will be responsible for raising any issues to management and stakeholders as required. You will also infuse agile methodologies into project management practices, promoting adaptability and responsiveness, and coordinate sprints and iterations to deliver incremental value to the evolving product. Your responsibilities will include managing the successful delivery of projects according to agreed scope, quality, time, budget, and customer expectations. You will generate and manage the project plan, resource plan, budget, and risk register, interlocking with third-party suppliers as necessary. Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks will be a key part of your role, as will developing contingency plans to proactively address challenges. You will also manage third-party suppliers, ensuring they meet delivery targets and contractual obligations. Communication will be a significant aspect of your role, as you will represent the project both internally and externally, providing regular and accurate progress reports to stakeholders. You will translate technical information to non-technical audiences, ensuring comprehensive understanding across all levels. Additionally, you will maintain performance metrics that contribute to continuous improvements in demand management, delivery quality, and overall effectiveness, while leading and motivating project teams in a matrix environment.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute a comprehensive project plan for the data lake.
  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders, emphasizing product-driven outcomes.
  • Negotiate with business stakeholders to find win-win solutions to their requirements while considering cost and resource constraints.
  • Ensure standards are maintained via a well-defined governance model, raising any issues to management and/or stakeholders as required.
  • Infuse agile methodologies into project management practices, promoting adaptability and responsiveness.
  • Coordinate sprints and iterations focusing on delivering incremental value to the evolving product.
  • Manage the successful delivery of projects and deliver to the agreed scope, quality, time, budget, and customer expectations.
  • Generate and manage the project plan (milestones), resource plan (people), budget, and risk register, interlocking with third-party suppliers as required.
  • Manage project budget during the full lifecycle of a project.
  • Implement cost-effective strategies and regularly update stakeholders on financial aspects.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, developing contingency plans to address challenges proactively.
  • Generate Change Requests as required and obtain appropriate approvals, ensuring all project meetings are documented to reduce miscommunication risk.
  • Manage third-party suppliers, both internal and external, to secure delivery targets.
  • Manage the contractual elements of third-party supplier engagements, ensuring suppliers are held accountable for contractual obligations.
  • Represent the project externally and internally by communicating and reporting on project status to all stakeholders.
  • Produce regular and accurate progress reports and present the project status at relevant review meetings.
  • Translate technical information to non-technical audiences ensuring full understanding of the subject matter from all levels.
  • Obtain documented customer acceptance of the project deliverables.
  • Maintain performance metrics that provide inputs to continuous improvements in demand management, delivery quality, and overall effectiveness.
  • Organize, lead, and motivate project teams of applications experts, both internal and external in a matrix environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in managing large projects and structured methods to manage projects.
  • Project management certification or successful completion of a recognized project management curriculum.
  • Experience in a complex, high demanding and fast-paced international environment, preferably in the Supply Chain industry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering IT projects with a strong emphasis on Data platforms (Snowflake, GCP, AWS, etc.).
  • Proven experience as a Project Manager, specifically leading projects with a product management focus.
  • Strong understanding of data lake architecture, data governance, and product development principles.
  • Experience of preparing and gaining approval of business cases for projects.
  • Ability to build good relationships with end users and senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and manage third-party supplier resources and contracts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to identify and prioritize system improvements.
  • Ability to navigate and balance the demands of project management, product development, risk management, and budget optimization.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment, with limited information.
