About the position

The Senior Project Manager of Heat Equity Research at the Luskin Center for Innovation (LCI) is responsible for strategically developing, managing, and executing projects aimed at reducing heat exposure for vulnerable populations. This role involves overseeing the Heat Equity research portfolio, which focuses on policy, planning, and actionable data to enhance community resilience against climate change. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including community-based organizations and government agencies, to inform equitable and effective heat governance and policy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage LCI's Heat Equity projects and their interconnections.
  • Ensure systems and processes are in place for the Heat Equity team to succeed across all projects.
  • Conduct engaged research with community-based organizations and civic partners.
  • Lead initiatives and create new systems and processes in an entrepreneurial manner.
  • Train and supervise staff to inspire excellent work.
  • Conduct strategic planning and fundraising to advance the strategic plan.
  • Prepare communication materials, including grant proposals and technical reports.
  • Serve as a spokesperson to media and lead engaging presentations and meetings.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in project management.
  • 3+ years of experience conducting engaged research with community-based organizations or government agencies.
  • Knowledge and passion for climate adaptation and resilience, particularly in extreme heat science and policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead new initiatives.
  • Ability to train and supervise staff effectively.
  • Experience in strategic planning and fundraising.
  • Excellent writing skills for various communication materials.
  • Strong oral communication skills for media interactions and presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to independently set and adaptively shift priorities.
