About the position

The position at Blue Origin involves designing and developing combustion devices for rocket engines and spaceflight systems. This role is crucial for ensuring safe and repeatable space flight, contributing to the company's vision of enabling millions of people to live and work in space. The successful candidate will manage the complete product life-cycle of combustion devices, from initial requirements through flight qualification, while working within a collaborative and safety-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop combustion devices including injectors, chambers, nozzles, thrusters, and igniters.
  • Manage the complete product life-cycle of combustion devices from initial requirements through flight qualification.
  • Support manufacturing and testing of combustion devices.
  • Perform test data reviews and process non-conforming hardware.
  • Write technical reports related to combustion device development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering discipline (aerospace, mechanical, chemical or physics desired).
  • Subject matter expert in combustion devices through design and development.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and data processing.
  • Strong technical fundamentals in propulsion, fluids, thermodynamics, and combustion analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of hardware fabrication, integration processes, and quality control.
  • Computer aided design (CAD) experience.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • 8+ years of industry experience in a related field.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in engineering discipline or higher.
  • Familiarity with analytical packages such as ANSYS, COMSOL, Fluent, CFX, Thermal Desktop, ROCETS or ROCCID.
  • Strong knowledge of the entire combustion devices life cycle from design, development, qualification, acceptance, and production.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10.
