About the position

The Senior Propulsion Engineer - Combustion Devices at Blue Origin is responsible for the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of combustion devices for rocket engines and spaceflight systems. This role involves overseeing the complete product life-cycle of combustion devices, ensuring safety and quality in the development of propulsion systems that will contribute to the future of space exploration. The position requires a strong technical background in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and structural mechanics, along with leadership skills to positively impact safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop combustion devices including injectors, chambers, nozzles, thrusters, and igniters.
  • Manage the complete product life-cycle of combustion devices from initial requirements through flight qualification.
  • Support manufacturing and testing processes for combustion devices.
  • Perform test data reviews and process non-conforming hardware.
  • Write technical reports related to combustion device development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in aerospace, mechanical, chemical engineering, or physics.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in a related field.
  • Subject matter expert in combustion devices through design and development.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and data processing.
  • Strong technical fundamentals in propulsion, fluids, thermodynamics, and combustion analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of hardware fabrication, integration processes, and quality control.
  • Computer aided design (CAD) experience.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in engineering discipline or higher.
  • Familiarity with analytical packages such as ANSYS, COMSOL, Fluent, CFX, Thermal Desktop, ROCETS, or ROCCID.
  • Strong knowledge of the entire combustion devices life cycle from design to production.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10.
