About the position

The Senior Propulsion Systems Engineer at Relativity Space is responsible for the design and analysis of fluid systems that ensure the reliable and efficient operation of the Terran R launch vehicle. This role involves working closely with various teams to integrate designs and ensure that systems meet the requirements for launching and landing reusable rockets. The position offers an opportunity to influence the development of aerospace technology and contribute to the company's vision of expanding humanity's industrial base on Mars.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting trade studies to produce architectures and designs that satisfy system requirements
  • Sizing at the system and component level
  • Performing detailed fluid and thermal analyses including system performance prediction and characterization using various analytical methods
  • Creating tools to enhance the team's analysis capabilities and streamline workflow
  • Participating in design and manufacturing reviews
  • Owning and leading test campaigns to validate system design and performance
  • Anchoring models with data from test and launch

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field
  • 5+ years of experience working with fluid systems
  • Strong experience in engineering fundamentals in system design, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer
  • Experience with one or more fluid or thermal modeling tools for internal compressible and incompressible analysis
  • Experience with programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or C++
  • Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to solve real, complex hardware problems
