About the position

The Senior Public Relations Specialist at the Wyoming Department of Family Services (DFS) is responsible for promoting the agency's mission and values, which focus on supporting families and ensuring safety at home. This role involves serving as the primary spokesperson for DFS, managing public relations and communications to enhance community engagement and awareness. The specialist will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that DFS services are accessible and well-represented, contributing to the well-being of families across Wyoming.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary spokesperson for DFS, conveying messages across diverse platforms including news outlets and social media.
• Develop strategic communications to inform audiences about DFS's critical services.
• Lead the design and content management of the DFS website and marketing materials.
• Handle media inquiries, public records requests, and crisis communications.
• Oversee the creation of promotional materials that align with DFS's values.
• Provide internal guidance to DFS leadership on public relations issues.
• Act as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the Department.
• Manage the public record request process in compliance with the Wyoming Public Records Act.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in communications or a related field.
• 0-3 years of progressive work experience in communications or public relations, or 4-6 years of relevant experience without a degree.
• Ability to write clearly and positively to engage audiences.
• Skilled in public speaking and building relationships with the media.
• Ability to analyze data to guide policy decisions.
