About the position

The Public Relations Specialist at The Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU is responsible for developing written content and supporting media relations initiatives across various service lines and departments. This role plays a crucial part in enhancing and maintaining the hospital's brand and reputation, collaborating on communications relevant to supported areas, and ensuring alignment with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop content, including feature stories, web content, and collateral.
  • Support media relations initiatives by drafting releases and advisories, pitching, arranging interviews, and conducting media escorts.
  • Seek opportunities to amplify messaging through owned, earned, and shared communications channels.
  • Utilize excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to interact with patients, families, physicians, senior leadership, and peers.
  • Review and edit materials created by other departments to ensure clarity and brand alignment.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team on the execution of videos, events, and other multi-faceted projects.
  • Track and compile reports of media activities and metrics to assess effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with outside vendors and supporters for congruency in communications.
  • Ensure responsibility and visible commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion programs/initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Strong working knowledge of a variety of public relations programs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and execute successful public relations campaigns.
