About the position

The Senior Public Relations Specialist at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU is responsible for developing written content and supporting media relations initiatives across various service lines and departments. This role plays a crucial part in enhancing and maintaining the hospital's brand and reputation, while also collaborating on communications relevant to the Children's Hospital Foundation.

Responsibilities

• Plans and develops content, including feature stories, web content, and collateral.
• Supports media relations initiatives by drafting releases and advisories, pitching, arranging interviews, and conducting media escorts.
• Seeks opportunities to amplify messaging through owned, earned, and shared communications channels.
• Uses excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to interact with patients, families, physicians, senior leadership, and peers.
• Reviews and edits materials created by other departments to ensure clarity and brand alignment.
• Works in partnership with the marketing and communications team on the execution of videos, events, and other multi-faceted projects.
• Tracks and compiles reports of media activities and metrics to assess effectiveness.
• Collaborates with outside vendors and supporters for congruency in communications.
• Ensures responsibility and visible commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion programs/initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field from an accredited program.
• Minimum 3 years of related experience.
• Excellent organization skills.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
• Strong working knowledge of a variety of public relations programs.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Proven ability to develop, implement, and execute successful public relations campaigns.
