About the position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior QA Engineer Energy to join our team in Richland, WA. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of our products and services, particularly in the energy sector. The Senior QA Engineer will set quality standards for both in-process and finished products and materials, developing methods for testing, sampling, and training. This role involves assisting line organizations with the implementation of EnergySolutions quality assurance (QA) procedures, especially in areas such as design control, procurement, records, corrective action, inspection, and testing. The engineer will provide support for the development, review, revision, and approval of quality-related procedures and plans aimed at ensuring high-quality products and services for EnergySolutions customers. The Senior QA Engineer will ensure that project plans are executed properly and evaluate the effectiveness of controls delineated in these plans. This includes verifying that all required quality sampling, testing, and documentation are performed correctly and in accordance with approved project plans. The engineer will review engineering designs and design changes for compliance with applicable procedures and plans, serving as a QA representative in project design reviews. Additionally, the role involves supporting management and staff with QA services, conducting independent QA assessments/audits, and maintaining knowledge of quality methods and techniques. The position requires strong communication skills to interact effectively with fabricators, QA clients, and project management personnel. The Senior QA Engineer will also be responsible for training and overseeing inspectors in their use of control forms and procedures, ensuring that engineering and technical staff understand quality requirements and how these apply to their work. This role is essential in helping line managers and project managers develop, revise, process, and evaluate documents for compliance with QA requirements, as well as performing supplier evaluations and overseeing procurement, fabrication, testing, and final document review and release for material shipments.

Responsibilities

• Set quality standards for both in-process and finished products and materials.
• Develop methods for testing, sampling, and training.
• Assist line organizations with implementation of EnergySolutions quality assurance (QA) procedures.
• Provide support for the development, review, revision, and approval of quality-related procedures and plans.
• Ensure project plans are properly executed and evaluate the effectiveness of controls in these plans.
• Verify that all required quality sampling, testing, and documentation are performed correctly.
• Review engineering designs and design changes for compliance with applicable procedures and plans.
• Serve as a QA representative in project design reviews.
• Support management and staff with QA services, including root cause analyses and critiques.
• Train and oversee inspectors in their use of control forms and procedures.
• Ensure engineering and technical staff understand quality requirements and their application to work.
• Help line managers and project managers develop, revise, process, and evaluate documents for compliance with QA requirements.
• Perform independent QA assessments/audits and surveillances of processes and procedures.
• Conduct walkthroughs as requested.
• Maintain knowledge/qualifications on quality methods and techniques.
• Review engineering packages to ensure appropriate quality controls are specified.
• Conduct event investigations including critiques, root cause analyses, and corrective action verification/validation.
• Perform supplier evaluations as a team member or lead.
• Perform on-site QA overview activities at various supplier locations and travel between facilities as necessary.
• Develop supplier performance metrics and track supplier corrective actions.
• Oversee procurement, fabrication, testing, and final document review and release for material shipments.
• Provide support to, and monitor the quality of, construction activities.
• Develop and provide training on QA-related topics and assist in the resolution of quality-related problems.
• Provide training to QA Engineers 1 and 2 and staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., engineering or a scientific discipline).
• Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years' experience as a QA Engineer.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management.
• Minimum of 15 years' experience working in a lead role in audit/assessment planning, reporting, and follow-up activities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a team player attitude.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Detailed knowledge of NQA-1 and DOE QA regulations and directives.
• Working knowledge of applicable national and/or international testing standards.
• Working knowledge of assessment/auditing practices.
• Detailed knowledge of nuclear facility QA design control requirements.
• Detailed knowledge of causal analysis techniques.
• Working knowledge of radioactive and/or hazardous material management.
• Detailed knowledge of DOE and NRC processes for Integrated Safety Management Systems, nuclear safety, radiation safety, and environmental compliance.
• Detailed knowledge of fabrication and testing of mechanical and electrical systems, national codes/standards, fabrication drawings, welding processes, nondestructive testing processes, and mechanical and electrical testing activities.
• Certification as an ASQ Lead Auditor.
• Certification as a lead auditor per NQA-1.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
