About the position

The Senior QA Engineer Energy at AtkinsRéalis is responsible for setting quality standards for products and materials, developing testing methods, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance procedures. This role involves supporting project management and engineering teams in maintaining high-quality standards, conducting audits, and providing training on QA-related topics. The position is crucial for ensuring that all quality-related processes are adhered to, particularly in the energy sector, contributing to the company's mission of delivering sustainable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Sets quality standards for both in-process and finished products and materials as assigned.
  • Develops methods for testing, sampling and training as assigned.
  • Assists line organizations with implementation of AtkinsRéalis quality assurance (QA) procedures especially in the areas of design control, procurement, records, corrective action, inspection and testing.
  • Provides support for the development, review, revision and approval of quality-related procedures and plans.
  • Verifies that all required quality sampling, testing and documentation are performed correctly and in accordance with approved project plans.
  • Reviews engineering designs and design changes for compliance with applicable procedures and plans.
  • Serves as a QA representative in project design reviews as assigned.
  • Supports management and staff with QA services, as requested.
  • Ensures engineering and technical staff understand quality requirements and how these requirements apply to their work.
  • Ensures required testing and observations are performed correctly and at the required frequency.
  • Helps line managers and project managers develop, revise, process and evaluate documents for compliance with QA requirements.
  • Performs independent QA assessments/audits and surveillances of processes and procedures as assigned.
  • Conducts walkthroughs as requested.
  • Maintains knowledge/qualifications on quality methods and techniques.
  • Reviews engineering packages to ensure appropriate quality controls are specified.
  • Conducts event investigations including critiques, root cause analyses and corrective action verification/validation.
  • Performs supplier evaluations as a team member or lead.
  • Performs on-site QA overview activities at various supplier locations and travels between facilities as necessary.
  • Develops supplier performance metrics and tracks supplier corrective actions.
  • Oversees procurement, fabrication, testing and final document review and release for material shipments.
  • Develops and provides training on QA-related topics and assists in the resolution of quality-related problems.
  • Provides training to QA Engineers 1 and 2 and staff as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in a technical field (e.g., engineering or a scientific discipline).
  • A degree in nuclear engineering preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience as a QA Engineer.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in program management.
  • A minimum of 15 years' experience working in a lead role in audit/assessment planning, reporting and follow-up activities.
  • Certification as a lead auditor per NQA-1 preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management/organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player attitude.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Detailed knowledge of NQA-1 and DOE QA regulations and directives.
  • Working knowledge of applicable national and/or international testing standards.
  • Working knowledge of assessment/auditing practices.
  • Detailed knowledge of nuclear facility QA design control requirements.
  • Detailed knowledge of causal analysis techniques.
  • Working knowledge of radioactive and/or hazardous material management.
  • Detailed knowledge of DOE and NRC processes for Integrated Safety Management Systems, nuclear safety, radiation safety and environmental compliance.
  • Detailed knowledge of fabrication and testing of mechanical and electrical systems.
