About the position

The Senior R D Hardware Engineer at Apptronik will lead the design and development of dexterous multi-finger robotic hands, contributing to innovative robotic solutions aimed at improving human quality of life. This role requires a strong background in miniature robotic system design and electromechanical integration, with a focus on rapid prototyping and high-volume production. The engineer will work collaboratively within a team to tackle complex engineering challenges and drive the advancement of state-of-the-art robotics technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of a dexterous multi-finger robotic hand through several quick, iterative development cycles.
  • Participate in system level decisions around hand design architecture.
  • Leverage analytical methodologies including mathematical modeling and simulations to design, develop and optimize state-of-the-art dexterous hands.
  • Lead concept generation, CAD design, analysis, documentation and verification to assess technical and commercialization feasibility.
  • Prototype and experiment with hand mechanical subsystems to assess concept feasibility.

Requirements

  • Expert in using 3D CAD software to design parts with complex geometry.
  • Experience designing and building prototype hardware.
  • Experienced with simulation and analysis methodology (FEA, MATLAB etc.).
  • Experience with miniature actuators and drivetrains (linear and rotary).
  • Experience with fingertip sensing technologies.
  • Experience with electromechanical integration, such as sensors, motors, motor drivers, wire harnesses, and communication buses.
  • Experience designing complex, highly articulated robotic assemblies.
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art dexterous robotics manipulation.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical, Biomechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or similar field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering solving complex electro-mechanical problems.
  • 5+ years demonstrated success delivering complex electromechanical systems including robots, industrial automation equipment or similar systems that combine actuation systems, motion control, custom sensor integration and electronics.
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and fabrication (CNC/manual machining, welding, laser cutting, additive manufacturing, etc.).
