AECOM is actively seeking a talented Senior Rail Operations Analyst to join our World Class Rail Team in our New York Metro Region office. In this position, the ideal candidate shall have education and/or experience in Rail Operations, Transportation Planning, Rail Signal Systems, and/or related areas of expertise. The applicant should have interest, education, and/or experience in various technical areas of expertise including Rail Operations, which encompasses train-control or train-operation experience, employee timetables, operating rules and special instructions, employee training programs, braking-distance tests, construction and maintenance under traffic while continuing train operations, station dwell times, control-center functionality and staffing, and train crewing. In addition, the role involves Rail Operations Planning, which includes line and interlocking configurations, terminal and yard configurations, various train-scheduling techniques such as local, express, skip-stop, and zone, as well as conducting Origination & Destination (O&D) studies. The candidate will also be responsible for analyzing signal-system alternatives, railroad and rail-transit signaling for both safety and headway/capacity requirements, crewing and staffing, computer simulation of rail systems, locating storage yards and maintenance facilities, designing for and determining operating speeds, and providing construction-staging support. Furthermore, the candidate will need to analyze alternatives and adhere to governmental regulations such as the Code of Federal Regulations (FRA rules). The position also requires expertise in Signal-System Analysis and Design, which includes railroad signaling and/or rail-transit signaling, signal-block layout analysis and design, designing for close headways and high capacities, signal-aspect and cab-signal control-line analysis and design, safe-braking distances, criteria and methodologies, Positive Train Control (PTC), and Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC). The candidate will conceptualize new signal systems and recommend operating and/or cab-signal speeds, analyze signal-system headways and capacities, and work with various signaling types including wayside signaling, cab-signaling, and train-stop signaling.
