About the position

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. Responsibilities

  • Partner with hiring managers and individuals at all levels of the organization to address staffing needs throughout the agency
  • Review resumes and applications, conduct thorough candidate screenings and effectively communicate the agency's unique selling points to engage potential hires
  • Maintain up-to-date records in the applicant tracking system, phone screening notes, documenting candidate assessments and requisition details
  • Source candidates through job boards, social media, professional networks, and industry events to attract a diverse pool of qualified candidates
  • Use LinkedIn recruiter to proactively identify passive candidates and engage them through personalized outreach and networking
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with candidates throughout the recruitment process, providing regular updates and acting as a main point of contact
  • Ensure a positive candidate experience by addressing questions, providing feedback, and ensuring timely communication
  • Conduct employment verifications and reference checks on selected candidates
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, market dynamics, and competitor insights, using this knowledge to guide effective recruitment strategies
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date recruitment data and analytics, generating reports to track key metrics and identify areas for improvement
  • Identify and propose solutions to inefficiencies in the recruiting process
  • Develop strategies to resource for hard to fill positions
  • Participate and assist in university job fairs and recruiting networking events to increase brand awareness
  • Various Human Resources projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Recruiting experience that includes designing recruitment plans, mining, and sourcing candidates through various social media outlets
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to deliver excellent customer service
  • Exposure to various Human Resources Management Systems (HRMS) and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) Taleo and UKG
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
  • 5 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school or in job related duties

Nice-to-haves

  • Working experience with various systems to include HRIS (UKG preferred), LMS, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and One Drive
