About the position

Allied Mineral Products is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide, and we are seeking a Senior Refractory Application Engineer to join our Product Services Engineering group. This role involves working directly with customers to provide technological solutions to refractory challenges across Allied's diverse markets. The Senior Refractory Application Engineer will play a crucial role in obtaining and analyzing operational and process data to deliver appropriate refractory solutions tailored to customer needs. In collaboration with the Allied Design Engineering group, the engineer will be involved in refractory capital projects, ensuring that the solutions provided are not only effective but also aligned with the company's strategic goals. The position also entails assisting in new product trials with customers, evaluating and documenting new refractory technology requirements, and creating and reviewing case studies and related corporate literature. Training is a significant aspect of this role, as the engineer will be responsible for providing refractory training to both Allied team members and customers. Participation in meetings and conferences to disseminate information is also expected. The engineer will document control in accordance with company policies and troubleshoot or audit customer installations and operations, providing technical assistance and recommendations as needed. Additionally, the engineer will assist customers through refractory sample analysis and related testing, attend customer visits for technical meetings, service, and installation assistance on-site, and provide refractory ‘best practice' and troubleshooting seminars for customers and technical organizations. Maintaining an industry presence in relevant trade organizations and supporting Allied's sales organization and customers globally is also part of the job. Occasional travel to US or international locations may be required to fulfill these responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and analyze operational and process data to provide appropriate refractory solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or another related field, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience within the metal melting or heat containment industries, focused on areas where refractories are utilized.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of refractory materials and properties beneficial.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Results-driven individual with strong communication skills who desires to engage effectively and collaboratively across the organization to drive the best outcomes and achieve business objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate, organize, and lead in multi-functional teams and to foster a proactive team environment.
  • Willing to be hands-on and on-site for the purposes of training and global support.
