About the position

The Senior Regulatory Accountant I at SoCalGas plays a crucial role in overseeing the maintenance of regulatory accounting mechanisms to ensure compliance and integrity of utility earnings. This position involves leading regulatory proceedings, developing forecasts, and implementing new accounting requirements, all aimed at facilitating appropriate cost recovery and minimizing rate volatility for customers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and coordinate monthly regulatory account adjustments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Resolve regulatory accounting issues with the Regulatory Accounts Manager to maintain integrity of utility earnings.
• Notify Financial Planning of any unusual adjustments to regulatory accounts that may impact shareholder earnings.
• Develop and maintain regulatory account forecasts for financial planning purposes.
• Support regulatory proceedings before the CPUC and FERC, potentially as a witness.
• Ensure compliance of regulatory accounts with the Utility's Preliminary Statement and applicable Commission decisions.
• Lead the implementation of new regulatory accounting requirements and communicate changes to relevant departments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, preferably in the utility business.
• High level of specialized knowledge in financial, accounting, and regulatory matters.
• Ability to interpret accounting, regulatory, and financial theories and develop solutions to business issues.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent communication skills for conveying complex information to diverse audiences.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and utility rate-making concepts.
