About the position

As a Senior Reinsurance Treaty Underwriter at Navigators Re, a brand of The Hartford, you will manage and grow an existing portfolio within surety in Latin America and the Caribbean. This role emphasizes collaboration, inclusivity, and innovative thinking, allowing you to apply your creative insights while working closely with other underwriters and leaders. You will be responsible for ensuring that the portfolio meets or exceeds target plan composite ratios through diligent pricing and risk selection, while also acting as a coach and mentor to team members.

Responsibilities

  • Growing and managing a profitable portfolio of new and renewal business accounts.
  • Developing and maintaining existing broker and cedant relationships and providing excellent service.
  • Marketing responsibilities throughout Latin America and the Caribbean as applicable.
  • Analyzing accounts for potential action at renewal and communicating efficiently with Brokers/Cedants for win/win solutions.
  • Applying all applicable underwriting guidelines when making account decisions.
  • Supporting, creating, driving, and executing on strategies for new and/or renewal accounts.
  • Coaching and mentoring team members, providing support with referrals and training in surety underwriting.
  • Utilizing established aggregation controls to ensure portfolio exposures do not exceed established parameters.
  • Monitoring downgrading in credit ratings of principals in the portfolio and managing exposures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years' experience in treaty reinsurance for Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Fully trilingual (English/Spanish/Portuguese) is required.
  • In-depth understanding of Surety insurance/reinsurance.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; STEM or Actuarial background is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret company financial statements.
  • Strong financial background is a plus.
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships with brokers and cedants.
  • Knowledge of deals placed in the market.
  • Ability to provide reinsurance treaty structure alternatives.
  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, Spanish & Portuguese.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong relationship building skills.
  • Ability to source and drive new business.
  • Excellent sales and negotiation skills.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Python, Tableau, and Power BI is a plus.
