About the position

The Senior Renewable Energy Procurement Manager at AWS Energy will play a crucial role in supporting the growth of clean energy across the Western US and Canada. This position involves negotiating and executing power supply contracts, creating innovative supply structures, and analyzing market conditions to identify opportunities that benefit Amazon. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, financial acumen, and a results-oriented approach to drive the development and execution of a comprehensive renewable energy strategy for AWS data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of a comprehensive renewable energy and utilities strategy for AWS data centers
  • Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid, reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon
  • Work collaboratively with Amazon Infrastructure team to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities
  • Analyze trends and regulations in the energy space to proactively identify opportunities that benefit Amazon
  • Be a passionate self-starter

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in Economics, Engineering, or Business
  • 5+ years working in the utility/energy industry
  • 2+ years of power transaction or contracting experience in US East (PJM, MISO, SPP, SERC) energy markets

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree (MBA/MS)
  • Proven ability to evaluate new energy markets, utility tariffs, policies, power contracts, or evaluating new energy sourcing opportunities and technologies
  • Familiarity with renewable credit programs, renewable project development, power forecasting and scheduling, portfolio management theory, advanced energy storage, or alternative energy resources
  • Experience building relationships and working with industry stakeholders, such as utilities, regional power planning agencies, renewable project developers, project investors, and renewable OEMs
  • The ability to manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous projects with minimal direction
  • Excellent speaking-listening-writing skills and attention to details
  • 8+ years of experience in energy markets, energy trading, power contract negotiations, energy regulations, renewable development, or energy generation technologies
