About the position

The position involves managing pre-award and post-award activities for the Department of Neuroscience, providing oversight in research administration, including personnel management, payroll, budgeting, and operations management. The role requires ensuring compliance with policies, supervising staff, and maintaining efficient workflows while supporting the department's research initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the department's research administration.
  • Identifies areas needing improvement and suggests solutions for senior leadership approval.
  • Prepares, monitors, analyzes, manages, and reports research division budgets.
  • Supervises and trains others in the submission of grant and contract proposals.
  • May oversee the submission and post-award activities of research or clinical trial studies.
  • Supervises payroll function and implements tracking systems for payroll activity.
  • Supervises purchasing function to ensure maximum utilization of funds.
  • Prepares and manages the annual salary planning process.
  • Communicates and administers all policies and procedures to faculty and staff.
  • Monitors compliance of faculty and staff with internal and external policies and procedures.
  • Maintains personnel records and oversees scheduling and evaluation processes.
  • Reviews and screens job applications and conducts interviews for hiring new personnel.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Implements and maintains procedures for efficient workflow and staff training.
  • Maintains professional public relations and handles complaints efficiently.
  • Serves as a liaison for research activities between the department, school, university, and outside agencies.
  • Completes special projects as directed by senior leadership.
  • Organizes and attends meetings and conferences; participates in departmental and university committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
  • 7 years of experience in accounting.
  • 3 years of experience in grants administration.

  • Knowledge of Research Management System (RMS), SUBS, etc.
  • Master's degree preferred.
