About the position

The Section of Allergy, Immunology and Pediatric Pulmonology at the University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to support its expanding research and laboratory initiatives. This position is integral to the department's mission of providing exceptional care to children with allergies, asthma, and various pulmonary disorders. The Senior Research Analyst will play a pivotal role in the research team, serving as a co-investigator on clinical trials and other investigator-initiated research projects. This role involves overseeing lab and data analysis, managing research data, and collaborating closely with clinical research coordinators to ensure the smooth operation of clinical trials. In this position, the Senior Research Analyst will apply their knowledge of research principles and relevant subject matter to administer research projects effectively. They will be responsible for developing, designing, and conducting research projects according to established plans, supporting the data collection and analytical needs of these projects. The analyst will conduct literature reviews, assist in writing reports and manuscripts, and utilize statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, and R to perform data analyses. Ensuring compliance with various policies and procedures is also a critical aspect of this role. The Senior Research Analyst will work in a laboratory setting, handling patient samples, which includes preparation and storage. They will also take on non-laboratory duties such as transcribing and coding data, developing data collection instruments, presenting research findings, and recruiting and scheduling research subjects. The role requires a commitment to acquiring higher-level skills and knowledge throughout the process. Additionally, the analyst will be responsible for laboratory duties, including recognizing abnormal results and adjusting procedures as necessary, setting up and performing experiments, and analyzing the significance of research findings. Other related tasks may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a co-investigator on clinical trials and other investigator-initiated research.
  • Oversees lab and data analysis and management.
  • Collaborates with a team of clinical research coordinators overseeing clinical research and trials.
  • Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge to administer research projects.
  • Helps develop, design, and conduct research projects according to plan.
  • Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects.
  • Conducts literature reviews and assists in writing reports and manuscripts.
  • Utilizes programs such as SAS, SPSS, and R to run statistical data analyses.
  • Ensures project compliance with various policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
  • Works in a wet lab with patient samples, including preparation and storage.
  • Transcribes and codes data; develops data collection instruments; presents research; recruits and schedules research subjects.
  • Recognizes abnormal results and varies conditions or procedures to correct problems; sets up and performs experiments.

Requirements

  • Minimum college or university degree in a related field.
  • 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in microbiology, cell biology, immunology, data science, statistics, epidemiology, or mathematics.
  • Experience in biostatistics programming, including R, SAS, and/or SPSS.
  • Ability to write grants and manuscripts.
  • Demonstrated publication record and commitment to excellence in research.
  • Development and implementation of RedCap for data collection.
  • Basic wet lab techniques.
