About the position

Wood Mackenzie is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Analyst to join our Equity Insights team. This position is pivotal in maintaining and developing our expertise in tracking activity across upstream and midstream energy assets, leveraging Wood Mackenzie's extensive knowledge and datasets in the energy commodity space. As a Senior Research Analyst, you will work closely with experienced analysts based in the US and Canada, contributing to our Equity Insights analytics service. Your role will involve ensuring that our Equity Insight models are kept up-to-date and accurate, investigating and resolving any issues, and communicating significant changes observed weekly based on Wood Mackenzie commodity data. In this full-time Analyst role, you will assist the team with their data requirements and help collect and generate reports from quarterly datasets. You will play a key role in the efficient operation of our short-term equity team, supporting our hedge fund, bank, and trading clients. Additionally, you will contribute to the analytical content and writing of our quarterly Equity Insights reports, which cover production, hedging, capex, and drilling economics. Engaging with client queries, particularly those related to the Equity Insight models you maintain, will also be part of your responsibilities. As we further develop our Equity Insight capabilities, you will be at the center of our product development program, helping Wood Mackenzie grow and enhance its Equity products. This role offers a fantastic leadership opportunity to make a significant impact in the energy sector, particularly in the context of the ongoing energy transition.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop expertise in tracking activity across upstream and midstream energy assets.
  • Ensure Equity Insight models are kept up-to-date and accurate.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to data accuracy.
  • Communicate important changes observed weekly based on commodity data.
  • Assist in collecting and generating reports from quarterly datasets.
  • Contribute to the analytical content and writing of quarterly Equity Insights reports.
  • Engage with client queries related to Equity Insight models and datasets.
  • Participate in the development of Equity Insight capabilities and product development.

Requirements

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • BSc or MSc in engineering, economics, data science, or finance.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification preferred.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Exposure to programming languages (VBA and/or Python preferable).
  • Experience working with large databases.
  • Experience with data visualization tools.

  • Experience in the Upstream or Midstream energy markets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build and maintain networks and relationships internally and externally.
